Cynthia A. Cooper Voice-over Demo

Cynthia Cooper is a unique voice talent.

I recorded and produced her voice-over demo which showcases her deep, diverse, distinctive voice. Her vocal range goes into very low registers, and she can voice male or female roles believably. Check out some samples below! Audio from film excerpts has been re-voiced using Cynthia as one of the characters in the clips below.

Shut Up Marie "Demo" (rock, alternative)

1. Raining Like Crazy 2:44

2. A.F. 3:32

3. Leaving Me 3:50

I had a great time recording, engineering, co-producing and mastering these three tunes on their five track EP. It was recorded using a Mackie 1604VLZ Analog mixer into a Pro Tools and Tascam DAT30 MK II. Kick and snare were routed through an ART Pro VLA Tube preamp; I also used the tube pre for vocals. Shure SM81 mics were overheads, AKG mics on toms and a D112 on kick drum. Neumann TLM 103 on all vocal tracks. Bass was recorded direct. All effects used, including mastering compressors (L1 and C4), were Waves Gold or Platinum Native pack.

The band line-up at the time was Annette Bzdawka on guitar and vocals, Bryan Ferguson on Guitars and vocals, Mark Evangelista on drums. Special appearances on guitar are from Shay [no last name on album credits]. Les July on bass.

"Back To The '70s with Charlie Tuna”

This show ran weekly on numerous stations around the United States.

Here is a brief excerpt of some of the content with my credit at 3:28 into the cut.

"Back To The '70s,” Daniel Excerpts 3:51

During a 2-year run, I engineered a weekly 5-hour syndicated radio show written, hosted, and produced by Los Angeles Radio Legend Charlie Tuna. Each show took a look back at the 1970s through the music, sound bites, and celebrity interviews from Charlie's archives.

I set up Pro Tools templates for Charlie, including voice-over signal chain consisting of compression, eq, and de-essing. I engineered audio, including clean-up of Charlie's interviews with celebrities; the source recordings spanned a wide variety of media including 1/4" analog reel, cassette tape, and CD. I used EQ and filters to restore the audio.

Final-pass editing included smoothing the mix, music, voice-over, and timing checks. I provided final mixdowns ready for mastering and broadcast by the distribution house.

That show ended and was followed by "The '70s with Charlie Tuna" as the most recent and best show yet with 4+ years of weekend broadcasts.

Graphics, Design, Typography, Video Stills, Musical Underscore

Ghost Towns of Death Valley (Documentary)

Excerpts of the movie with my musical underscore (video) 5:49

This 44-minute documentary was produced, directed and edited by Larry Law. This film is for sale at the Death Valley Visitors Center on DVD.

I scored this feature using virtual MIDI instruments (Roland XP80 keyboard and XV3080) with Pro Tools. I also recorded Bryan Ferguson performing acoustic slide guitar vignettes and Mark Evangelista on cymbals.

My contribution was both the musical underscore, some audio editing, and the graphics for print and video (title and end cards and bumper graphics for commercial breaks on an alternate version for broadcast).
